The USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation is the newest school at the University of Southern California, one of the world's top research institutions and a recognized leader in new forms of interdisciplinary education. In Fall 2017, the Academy welcomed its first class of graduate students to the Master of Science in Integrated Design, Business and Technology program. This online graduate degree program provides a first-of-its-kind interdisciplinary education at the intersection of the educational and professional disciplines central to our changing world. The program creates leaders with diverse and creative ways of thinking and doing - professionals trained to recognize and cultivate innovation, catalyze change, and leverage new opportunities to not only support, but also help shape and build our rapidly evolving economy.


The University of Southern California's Iovine and Young Academy is seeking a Student Services Advisor I to join its team. This position will will provide a range of services to graduate students in the online Master of Integrated Design, Business and Technology, and other graduate programs as they are launched online or on the ground.


Principal duties will include:

+ Support the recruitment and admission initiatives of the Iovine and Young Academy graduate programs.

+ Serve as a resource for prospective graduate students and families on admission, financial aid, housing and academic requirements.

+ Provide academic advising for graduate students on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, and graduation counseling and clearance.

+ Maintain currency on policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to admission, financial aid, registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, petitions and other student services.

+ Evaluate student problems (academic, administrative, personal) and refer students to appropriate student services for additional counseling. Liaise with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.

+ Maintain student records and compile statistical data. Prepare reports for internal and external use.

+ Plan and assist with student programs including new student orientation, commencement, and residential programs.

+ Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with graduate degree programs and graduate student services in the context of a comprehensive college or university, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred candidates will have current experience working in online graduate degree settings. Candidates must have the ability to work successfully within a team of staff and faculty members as well as third-party providers of online educational services. Occasional evening and weekend work isrequired.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Experience: 1 year

Minimum Field of Expertise: Related education and experience in student services and advisement.


+ Masters degree

+ Understanding of higher education operations and a familiarity with computer applications

+ Experience with online degree programs

+ Graduate student advising experience

+ Experience working with third party providers of online educational services

+ Knowledge of student and academic programs, policies and procedures and knowledge of student information systems (such as SIS).

+ 3-5 years' experience.
